CIS Teach a Topic

THE PRESENTATION

Reflection:

In my Intelligent Systems course, one of our end-of-semester assignments was to research a topic we hadn't learned a lot about, and then present the information to the class with intention of teaching all the new information. I chose to dive into some research regarding bioinformatics and the process of gene mapping. I highlighted some areas where bioinformatics is growing especially in healthcare applications. I approached this research with the question “what do I need to understand in order to use these processes in my future career?”  This pointed question made the research much more meaningful because I was able to deepen my connections between computer science techniques and their applications in healthcare. I plan on becoming an OT and through this research, I better understood the overlap of intelligent systems with the efficiency of patient care. Many more correlating research questions came to mind throughout this process. After completing the assignment, I was able to present the content to my classmates in an engaging environment. This process made me feel more prepared for future research presentations. I understood how well I am going to be expected to know my work, and the in-person presentation practice was incredibly helpful. This assignment allowed me to complete Original Research Level One as well as Dissemination of Results Level One.
